New Staff

Our gardener has left. Find a replacement was so simple. All you have to do is ask at Jawla’s Beach Bar and the local ex-pats will recommend someone. Anyway, Abdouline started on Monday. The difference he has made is incredible. The previous ‘boy’ (he may have been 40 but any man who works in a compound is called a boy) had to be told to do everything. Abdouline has weeded, levelled ground, cleaned the pool and swept the patio and verandah every day without being asked! In four days he has done more than the previous guy did in a month. It shows that you don’t have to put up with second best in The Gambia.

Breaking News! House for Sale in The Gambia!

We have had some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that we have got permission to build two houses on a plot of land we  own in the UK.

The bad news is that this means that we will have to move back to the UK to oversee the building work. I really cannot understand how some people can buy a plot of land in The Gambia and expect to be able to manage the project from 4,000 miles away.

We will still come to The Gambia as often as we can for holidays but we cannot justify keeping a compound and car to use for just a month or two every year.

There is already a Facebook page  (click here) which tells a few things about our house and I will be putting more pages on this site but basically, we are selling a fully furnished 5 bedroomed house with swimming pool and self-sufficient solar power electricity system. The compound is about 80m x 80m and only a few minutes from Paradise Beach. Our 2012 Tata Telcoline double cab pick-up is also included in the asking price of £185,000/€225,000.
